O’Hare has seven runways that are used at different times depending primarily upon prevailing wind conditions on the airfield, as well as any runway maintenance. Aircraft depart and land into the wind for safety purposes.
The two-part Runway Use Report illustrates percentage of use for departures and arrivals for all hours of the day and for all aircraft types. It also denotes runway use for nighttime hours (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.).
