- Single-family, owner-occupied
residences constructed before October 1998 and impacted by aircraft noise levels, as
determined by the
2000 Airport Noise Contour, are
eligible for the program. (Click
here for map of the Program through 2004)
Also, try the
Property Locator to determine possible
eligibility for the program.
- An ONCC survey of homeowners who
have participated in the Residential Sound
Insulation Program found a very high level of
satisfaction. Ninety-four percent of survey
respondents indicated that the quality of living
inside their homes improved or greatly improved
after the sound insulation work was completed. When
asked if they would recommend the Program to their
eligible neighbors, 98 percent said that they
would.
- The sound insulation work, which
often includes new acoustically rated doors and
windows, makes it easier for residents to sleep,
talk on the phone, watch television, listen to
music, or simply have a conversation in their own
homes.
- For residents who do not qualify
for the program, yet would like to better sound
insulate their homes, the ONCC and the Chicago
Department of Aviation offer a 36-page
homeowners handbook
(PDF) that explains in detail ways to effectively
sound insulate a home.
