The ONCC disseminates a variety of information
related to aircraft noise issues through its community outreach
programs. Some of that information is aboard the Chicago Department
of Aviation's Community Outreach Vehicle.
The Community Outreach Vehicle (COV)
travels to community events, festivals, schools, and libraries
through out the year. There are video presentations and computer
demonstrations aboard the COV that explain, among other things, the
O'Hare Airport Noise Management System and noise profiles of different
types of aircraft.
The COV is also used as a learning tool. It travels to schools
located within the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs to
discuss noise retrieval procedures, data collection, and aviation
career possibilities. A portable noise monitor helps students
visualize noise levels of various events. The COV is powered by
compressed natural gas and is equipped with an ADA compliant
automatic hydraulic wheelchair lift.
Anyone interested in having the COV visit their city, village hall,
neighborhood, or school may contact Andrea Mckenzie at the Chicago Department of Aviation, 773-686-3563. |
